Addiction, whether to drugs, alcohol, sex or pornography, is a quick way to avoid feeling painful emotions. One of the most difficult jobs of a recovering addict is to silence inner voices attempting to seduce him or her into that short-term fix. Rationalizations, distortions, and fabrications cause an addict to mistrust the self and ignore the severe consequences of relapse.
